Business Development Manager- West Coast Pathology and Histology Services


Identify, validate and grow new business with Services targeting precision medicine companion diagnostic testing,  Histology, and Tissue Pathology from service experts who enable their client to advance drug candidates through the drug disovery pipleline. Utilizing AI and machine learing coupled with seasoned experts in the manual stages provide a comprehensive service portfolio helping clients from early pre-clinical/pre-IND all the way through to Phase IV commercialization.  


Imagine aligning yourself with a service provider with that level of downstream longevity for their clients and parters. You cold collaborate with them multiple times for a single entity. 


The business development manager leads the client discovery and sales process, manages expectations, and ensures that the new client’s needs and expectations are being met throughout the entire engagement through continued communication with both the client an interal operations.  


All of this with a commission plan you can explain in two breaths, without Sumerian Algebra.


Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for achieving sales objectives through new account acquisition

  • Act as the main business contact for prospective clients 

  • Identify and qualify prospects

  • Work with internal scientific experts to clarify client requirements and project goals 

  • Manage expectations with prospective clients to facilitate and anticipate related activities and service opportunities

  • Identify potential champions within prospective clients to build and maintain strong relationships 

  • Work with internal team to create appropriate proposals and Statements Of Work that include accurate scope, and timeline information

  • Present client proposals to ensure understanding of scope and value of the Company’s services

  • Work within the CRM to document territory growth and pipeline progress. 

  • Coordinate the involvement of internal resources including operations, science, and management, to ensure account performance objectives and clients’ expectations are consistently met

  • Provide oversight and lead discussions to internal and external stakeholders regarding progress towards client monthly/quarterly initiatives 

  • Proactively assess, clarify, and validate client needs on an ongoing basis and assist in translating into Company-delivered solutions

  • Facilitate advisory and planning discussions with internal and external stakeholders

  • Provide feedback to Marketing and Product Management departments on client needs and tools to hone client messaging

  • Other tasks and projects, as assigned

Key Achievements

  • Increase revenue in the territory in both new and existing accounts.

  • Expand the scope of the territory to include more biotech and biopharma accounts on the West Coast specifically in the hot-beds of San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle. 

  • Convert conversations into sales – we are not worried about the metrics that don’t count.

  • Produce year over year growth in the territory in number of accounts and revenue dollar volume  


Base Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science or business-related field or commensurate experience in the field

  • 4 years of strategic sales experience in a science based business-to-business sales environment

  • Proven track record of success in an account acquisition role 

  • Proven science acumen

  • Highly flexible and able to pivot during collaborative sales engagements

  • Ability to adapt and perform effectively in a very fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, both independently and as part of a team

  • Solid computer skills and ability to learn new software applications/systems quickly

  • Upbeat attitude and drive to learn and collaborate. 

  • Ability to meet travel requirements, domestic and international


Preferred Qualifications

  • Sales experience in a related industry representing a service (i.e. pharmaceutical, biological or life sciences, technology, data science) 

  • Masters or PhD degree in a scientific discipline

  • Expereince working with tissues
